About us
Our HistoryBefore Allan Houston became an NBA All-Star, a philanthropist, or a leader on a national stage, he was a son learning from his father. Allan was raised by Coach Wade Houston — the first Black head coach in the SEC — a man who believed that character mattered more than accolades. Wade taught Allan that leadership starts at home, values shape behavior, and relationships are the foundation of lasting impact. Those lessons stayed with Allan throughout his life and career. Even at the height of professional success, he remained grounded in the principles passed down to him — faith, integrity, sacrifice, leadership, and legacy. As one of the NBA’s most respected players and one of the purest shooters in league history, Allan experienced success at the highest level. But even in moments of national recognition, what mattered most to him were the values instilled at home — faith, integrity, sacrifice, leadership, and legacy. Those five fundamentals became Allan’s compass. They shaped how he showed up as a teammate, a competitor, a husband, and a father. The fundamentals became the blueprint for something larger than basketball. In 2001, Allan founded the Allan Houston Legacy Foundation to extend what was given to him.
Not as theory, but as lived experience. The same way his father poured into him, Allan committed to pouring into others. Through key initiatives like Changing Behaviors and Changing Minds and programs such as Father Knows Best or the Allan Houston Mentoring program, all activities are built on one core belief: healthy relationships change lives.
